So.Many.Vegetables. (and a Giveaway!) – Giveaway has Ended

See all of that produce in the above photo? It wasn’t just a prop. I juiced all of that, and then some, to make a giant batch of green juice. I think it’s safe to say I’m meeting all of the recommended fruit and vegetable servings…before 9am.

I have a very love/hate relationship with my juicer. I love the fresh juice, but I can’t stand cleaning the juicer afterwards. It’s not even that it takes all that long (maybe 5 or 10 minutes?), it’s just that I like to keep dish-washing to a minimum, and I don’t think I can put the juicer in the dishwasher. Bummer.

Green juices are a big part of the Crazy Sexy Diet, and just as I had mustered up the willpower to commit to using my juicer on a daily basis, I read a very important line in the book: juice can be stored for up to two days in the fridge. YES!

And so what you see above was part of a massive batch of green juice I made for the next several days (still perfecting a recipe!). I’ll admit it doesn’t taste quite as great after it’s had time to sit, but only having to do the prep work every couple of days is 100% worth it to me. So, if cleaning the juicer is stopping you from making juice, I recommend emptying your produce drawer in one fell swoop.

Now onto that giveaway…

Last week, I was contacted by Hilary Greenleaf (awesome name, right?) offering to give away a couple of eBooks for her latest release, The New Green Smoothie Diet.

The book is full of information on the benefits of green smoothies, answers to common questions (how much do I need to drink each day? do I have to drink the whole glass in one sitting?), and recipes depending on your goals (weight loss, boosting energy, etc).

After reading the book, I will say that I do wish there were more explanations for some of the statements, particularly around not adding protein powders, milks, or other add-ins to smoothies. I’d be interested to know the “why” behind these recommendations. That aside, the recipes sound fantastic, and I think this book is a great starting point for people who are looking to boost their raw vegetable (and fruit) intake. I personally have my eye on the Blackberry Lettuce smoothie. Oh, the things we start looking forward to after just three days without processed sugar…berries never tasted so sweet.
