July Vegan Food Swap

It’s Monday again. I’m not really sure how that happened, but despite not doing much of anything yesterday, my weekend totally flew by. I thought for sure Sunday would be a long-ish day, helped by the fact that Honey decided it was time to play at exactly 5:41 am.

I let Aaron sleep in for a while because he’s been exhausted from work, and when he finally stumbled into the living room, we had our usual weekend morning conversation: he asks me when I got up, I tell him the ridiculous hour that Honey or Olive decided to be buttheads, and he tells me to wear earplugs because he wore them and didn’t hear a peep. If only earplugs worked on the whole dog pawing at my face thing, I’d be all set. Also, I’m fairly convinced Olive spends her nights trying to dig to China in her crate. It wouldn’t be so bad if I could muffle the scratching with a dog bed or even a towel, but Olive thinks those are food, and the last thing we need is a trip to the vet because her stomach finally called uncle on the three pounds of fabric she ingested.

Despite my initial frustration, I actually didn’t mind getting up early yesterday. I tidied up a bit (it’s what I do), made a cup of coffee for the first time in months, and dug into this month’s vegan food swap goodies from Veronica of Short, Silly, Vegan. In addition to having an awesome blog name, Veronica put together a great assortment of new-to-me products, including some of her local Washington state favorites, like rhubarb vinegar and dried apricots.

So what if it wasn’t even 7am when I was sampling salad dressing, crackers, and vegan jerky? That’s one of the perks of being the only person awake. No one to judge, and no sharing required, except with Honey when she won’t stop “low five-ing” me.

This was my second month participating in the swap, and once again, I was really blown away by the thoughtfulness of the items Veronica selected. If you’re interested in taking part next month, definitely sign up at The Verdant Life! You don’t have to commit to more than a month at a time, the budget is reasonable ($20 max), and you get to connect with other bloggers who share similar interests. Plus, getting mail is fun!
