Vegan Food Swap

I love getting stuff in the mail. Wait, let me clarify – I love getting non-junk mail and things that aren’t bills. This is why all of our utilities are in Aaron’s name. Sure, the money comes out of a joint account, but if I don’t have to pay the actual bills, it’s almost like they don’t even exist. Except when I tally up our expenses at the end of the month, and then they are very, very real.

Vegan Food Swap

I first heard about this vegan food swap from Jackie at Vegan Yack Attack. It’s organized by Cat from The Verdant Life, and basically, each month, you get matched with two people: one person to send a box to, and one person to receive a box from. The budget is around $20 and you’re supposed to include a hand-written note or recipe of some sort. The only thing better than receiving food in the mail is receiving something someone wrote…with an actual pen. It’s charming, even if my own handwriting is a little rusty.

Lemon Candies

I was matched up with the lovely April from Beyond the Small Gate and April’s Mooseathon (a blogging overachiever). April is awesome! She’s super friendly and did such an amazing job putting together my foodie gift. Just about everything she included were things I’ve longingly walked past at Whole Foods, telling myself that no, I did not need those dark chocolate peanut butter cups or cherry licorice, on top of the vegan chocolate chip scone that had somehow already made its way into my cart.

That's It Bars

And that’s one of the things I loved the most about this food swap – in addition to connecting with other bloggers, I also got to splurge on a handful of new-to-me products that I almost certainly wouldn’t have bought for myself. It was fun!
