I remember back when my brother and I were little, my mom used to do fun things with food around the holidays. She’d make pink-frosted, heart-shaped sugar cookies for Valentine’s Day, and gingerbread men with little M&M buttons around Christmas (she loves ginger everything and M&Ms). On St. Patrick’s day, she would sneakily add a few drops of green food coloring to our dinners and we would get such a big kick over being served green rice or green mashed potatoes.
These days, I still like to turn my food green around St. Patrick’s day. It’s a good excuse to go heavy on the pesto or mint, and I always indulge in a big slice of Irish soda bread (you have to).
